Space and Time Releases Open-Source GPU Accelerator for ZK-Proof Protocols
Space and Time, a decentralized Web3 data service, has unveiled an open-source GPU acceleration framework called Blitzar. This framework is designed to optimize the performance of zero-knowledge proof (ZK-proof) generation, a key component of Ethereum layer 2 scaling platforms and other blockchain protocols.
ZK-proofs are cryptographic protocols that allow one party to prove specific information to another party without revealing the actual data. It ensures data confidentiality while verifying its accuracy.
Blitzar is specifically tailored for GPUs, which excel at handling computationally intensive tasks like ZK-proof generation. GPUs also have efficient memory structures for managing large datasets, a crucial element of ZK-proofs.
Space and Time's GPU acceleration framework is now available for projects seeking performance enhancements related to multi-scalar multiplication. The company leverages NVIDIA GPUs for its Proof of SQL ZK-proof tool, which generates SNARK cryptographic proofs of queries within its decentralized data network.
This technology enables decentralized applications (DApps) to run queries against Space and Time's data warehouse and produce verified proofs for efficient and privacy-preserving data. It aims to provide tamper-proof on-chain and off-chain data to blockchain services, advanced computing, artificial intelligence, and large language models.
The co-founder of Space and Time, Jay White, mentioned that Blitzar could be used by Ethereum layer 2 protocols like Polygon zkEVM and zkSync Era to optimize their ZK-proof generation.
In 2023, ZK-proof protocols gained prominence, particularly within the Ethereum ecosystem, with several protocols going live to enable fast and low-fee transactions for DApps and services operating on the Ethereum blockchain.
