Nvidia and U.S. National Science Foundation Partner for AI Advancement
Nvidia, a leading artificial intelligence (AI) chip manufacturer, has joined forces with the United States National Science Foundation (NSF) to launch the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) pilot. This initiative aims to broaden access to the tools required for responsible AI research and innovation. Nvidia is committing $30 million in technology contributions over the next two years and plans to gather insights from researchers using its platforms to enhance technology effectiveness. It will provide resources like the NVIDIA DGX Cloud AI supercomputing resources and NVIDIA AI Enterprise software.
NAIRR involves 10 additional partners from various U.S. government agencies, including the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
The NAIRR pilot aligns with the Biden administration's executive order on AI released in October 2023, which directed the NSF to launch a pilot for NAIRR within three months.
The vision for NAIRR is to provide access to computing, data, models, and software for researchers and communities.
In addition to this partnership, Nvidia recently announced a collaboration with Equinix to provide supercomputing systems to corporate clients.
