Former NSW premier, Mike Baird, and Project host, Waleed Aly, has unwantedly become a part of a bitcoin investment scam. Numerous advertisements and quotes have taken over the social media giant, Facebook, misusing the images of Baird and Aly to promote a “wealth loophole” and encourage readers to buy bitcoin.
As reported by ABC News, the ads are associated with a fake article that references a discussion between Mr. Aly and Mr. Baird, boosting and suggesting people dive in the crypto world by purchasing the digital currency. At present, the National bank of Australia is investigating false news, website, and advertisements as Baird is an executive of NAB.
The article subjects to lure the investors by ensuring a high payout. A total of 75 sponsored posts were posted on Facebook in just three days. The users have also informed the appearance of ads even after reporting them various times.
A bank’s spokesperson has asserted and confirmed that the executive is not connected with either the companies or the products involved in the notices. He cautions the citizens, stating, “We encourage Australians who come across these scam sites to avoid clicking on the links and report where possible to the administrator of the platform where the ads are hosted.”
Facebook has also acted upon the issue. A spokesperson of the platform has mentioned working to stop the ads and said, “‘It’s important to us that ads on Facebook are useful to people and not used to promote deceptive behavior, like misusing images of public figures to mislead people.”
