Amazon MGM Studios has denied allegations that it used artificial intelligence (AI) to mimic actors’ voices during the production of the upcoming remake of the 1989 film Road House. The lawsuit, filed by scriptwriter Lance Hill, accuses Amazon Studios of copyright infringement and misuse of AI during the actors’ strike held between July 14 and Nov. 9, 2023.
Denial of Allegations
A spokesperson for Amazon MGM Studios dismissed the allegations as "completely without merit," stating that the film does not use any AI in place of the actors’ voices. The spokesperson emphasized that numerous claims in the lawsuit are categorically false and that Amazon looks forward to defending itself against these claims in court.
Use of AI in Production
While an unconfirmed source revealed that AI was not used to recreate the actors’ voices, they mentioned that AI might have been considered during early production cuts. However, Amazon reportedly advised the filmmakers to remove all AI elements from the final cut of the film.
Star-Studded Cast and Release Date
The upcoming Road House remake boasts a star-studded cast, including Jake Gyllenhaal, Conor McGregor, Post Malone, Daniela Melchior, and Jessica Williams. The movie is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on March 21.
